BIRTH
Annetje Lysbeth Dickson Hoogland is reported to have been born 29 October 1663. Her parents are reported to be Dirck Jansen Hoagland and Annetje Hansen Bergen. The location of her birth was in what is now Brooklyn, but was called Bedford at that time.

The birth year of 1663 appears to be confirmed by a legal action that took place in 1679 when Annetje was 16 years old.

There is a published record dated 3 October 1679 that a 40 year old Captain Syrachs de Vries forced himself on a 16 year old Annetje. It is interesting that the captain was only punished with a fine of £25. Annetje was not only punished, but assigned choice between a fine of £5 or to receive seven lashes on her bare back.

MARRIAGE #1
Annetje Hoagland married Hendrick Gerritsen Van Wagenen [Van Wie / Van Wyen / Van Weyen] in 1684 in Kingston [in what is now Ulster in New York state]. First banns were published 19 April 1684, so assume actual marriage was in May 1684. Church record seems to indicate that groom was born in Overysel, a province in Holland, and the bride was born in Bedford on Long Island. At the time of the wedding, both bride and groom were living in Kingston.

Notation at end of will for Hendrick Van Wegen of Shawangunk 1768 indicates multiple names for Annetje [Annatie Hoogland Dircx (Gerritsz)]. At this time of emerging surnames, this may help us understand how Annette’s extra names were presented.

DEATH OF HUSBAND #1
It is reported that Hendrick Van Weyenen died sometime in the late 1680s. Note that the death of Hendrick Van Wie in 1694 is not our line.
MARRIAGE #2
It is reported that Annetje married Gerrit Lambertse in 1690 or 1691.
This is the time period when families began using surnames. By the end of his life, Gerrit was using surname of Teerpenning/ Terpenning.

DEATH
It is reported that Annetje Hoagland Terpenning died in or after 1703. As her last child was baptized 25 December 1703, if she did die in 1703 the birth of this child may have been a factor.
