George Threadgould was baptized 5 October 1794 in Parish Church of Snaith (Church of England) in Yorkshire, England. He is listed as son of Thomas Redgold (should be Threadgould) a laborer.

BLACKSMITH

George Threadgould served his apprenticeship to learned the blacksmith’s trade while he was living at Sykehouse (a township in the parish of Fishlake). By 1821 he was working in Sykehouse and is reported to be the village blacksmith there from about 1823 until 1850, when he and his family emigrated to America.

MARRIAGE #1

On 14 March 1821 George Threadgould (27) married Jane Whitaker (18) at St Cuthbert’s church in Fishlake, Yorkshire, England. Both signed their names. It is interesting that George spelled his surname as ‘THREADGUOLD.”

Jane was the daughter of William Whitaker, a Sykehouse farmer, and his wife Hannah (nee Wood). Jane was born at Sykehouse on 15 May 1802 and christened at Fishlake church on the first of June. Her name was entered in the parish register as “Jenny.”

On 12 July 1826 Jane Whitaker (Threadgould) died in Sykehouse, Yorkshire, England at age 24 years. She was buried 15 July 1826 at Fishlake Church.

On 18 December 1826 George Threadgould (32) married Ann Moat (21), a spinster of Fishlake, at St Cuthbert’s church in Fishlake, Yorkshire, England. Both signed their names. This time George spelled his surname as “THREADGOULD.”

Ann was the daughter of William Moat, a tailor at Fishlake, and Mary (nee Batty). She was born at Fishlake on 18 February 1805 and baptized there on 17 March 1805.

According to The Threadgould Families book, “In 1855 George Threadgould and family moved to Taylor Township in Wayne County, Michigan, about 15 miles south west of the centre of Detroit. There George purchased land on the corner of Goddard Road and Telegraph Road near the centre of the town and started a blacksmith business.”

BURIAL

George Threadgould was buried in grave 136E at Elmwood Cemetery in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan.

According to The Threadgould Families book pages 48-49, “George and Ann Threadgould lived at Taylor for the remainder of their lives. George died of a heart attack on 22 August 1865, aged 71 years. Ann died of a “stroke” on 19 June 1873. Both are buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Detroit, in the family plot purchased by their daughter Hannah and her husband, John Crebbin.”

DEATH OF WIFE #2

Ann Moate (Threadgould) died 19 June 1873 of paralysis in Michigan. She was buried in grave 407G  at Elmwood Cemetery in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan.

Death record says Ann Threadgould died 17 June 1873 in Taylor, Wayne, Michigan of heart disease. She was a widow aged 68 years 3 months 30 days, born in England.
