shared the pioneer homestead with the senior Walter family, and inherited the family farm upon the death of the father. Peter and Veronica had 9 children of this marriage, 6 of whom survived infancy – Sarah, Henry, Elizabeth, Cornelius, John and Dan.

Records show that Peter Junior obtained his money from the sale of firewood, cattle, wheat, and by raising sheep for meat and wool. Leslie Walter remembers his grandfather and knows that he was illiterate, but that he was able to quickly add long columns of figures in his head.
