Cornelius and Annie were married on December 20, 1899 in a ceremony in both English and German, and they farmed on “The Sixth of Wallace” homestead during their married life. Cornelius and Annie had 5 children: Earl, Ethel, Leslie, Marjorie and Anita. After Annie’s death in 1914 due to complications in childbirth (a son), Cornelius remarried on July 7, 1915 to Margaret Zinn (a 40 year old spinster who had cared for the children since Annie’s death). Veronica was the daughter of Casper and Margaret (Wolf) Kimpel, and sometimes used the name “Franke”. They -6- shared the pioneer homestead with the senior Walter family, and inherited the family farm upon the death of the father. This Walter family migrated from Germany to Buffalo, New York, about 1845 with their older children. The first documentary evidence of Johann (AKA Peter) and Katharine’s arrival in the New World is found in the 1851 census for Waterloo County, Ontario. Peter is located in the agricultural census where he was occupying about 175 acres of wood or wild land (not cultivated or under pasture) and living in a one-story log cabin.
